Amita Shrivas: The Courageous Animal Rescuer. A Voice for the Voiceless

In the small city of Katni, where fields and barns often make way for urban development, a young woman named Amita Shrivas has taken it upon herself to rescue and care for injured animals. Known as the "lover of snakes" by locals, Amita has devoted the past six years to animal conservation, working tirelessly without support from the government or administration.

The Beginning of a Mission

Amita's passion for animal rescue began when she noticed an increasing number of animals and birds getting injured due to habitat loss. "Katni is not a very big city, and animals often wander onto the roads, getting hurt," she shares. With no one else stepping in to help, Amita decided to take action herself, creating a shelter where injured animals could recover.

A Sanctuary for the Injured

Amita’s shelter is home to a variety of animals, including rabbits, cats, baby pigeons, dogs, cows, and calves. Each animal has its own story—like a malnourished kitten abandoned by its mother or a baby pigeon injured by a cat. Amita ensures that these creatures receive medical care, nourishment, and a safe place to recover. Once they are healthy, they are free to return to their natural environment.

Overcoming Challenges

Despite the difficulties of balancing her sewing business with her animal rescue work, Amita remains committed. All her earnings go toward the care of her animals. "Raising even one family is difficult these days, let alone caring for hundreds of voiceless creatures," she says. Yet, Amita ensures that even in death, these animals are treated with dignity, performing their last rites herself.

Building a Community of Support

While Amita primarily works alone, she welcomes help from like-minded individuals. Her compassion and dedication inspire others to join her cause, if only for a short time. Her journey highlights the importance of taking action rather than merely talking about the need for change.

Though Amita carries out her work largely on her own, she warmly invites support from individuals who share her passion. Her unwavering compassion and tireless dedication ignite a spark in others, motivating them to stand beside her, even if briefly. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that true impact comes from action, not just words.

A Message of Hope

Amita Shrivas embodies courage and determination, proving that one person can make a difference. Her story is a call to action for all of us to care for the world around us, one step at a time.
